It sounds like pet insurance doesn’t make sense for Marley but I recommend it if you get her a younger sibling. That quote is sooo high. I paid around $2000 for the year when my first bichon was 15 and he’d been a high utilizer—glaucoma, multiple emergency visits. I think it stayed reasonable because he had the same insurance since he was 1. I had a great experience with Embrace and my new puppy has coverage with Healthy Paws

I think we waited too long! I’ll check Embrace just to be sure, but assuming the underwriting is likely the same for a 12yr old lab. We chatted about it last night and felt like we’d rather pay a surprise $10k bill in two years than adding another significant monthly expense now.

Sitting here with my 2 year old bulldog who had a $7,000 surgery yesterday. It is absolutely worth it for a new dog - she’s had Healthy Paws since the day she came home. We get 70% back on everything once we hit our $500 premium. While unfortunately pet insurance won’t cover standard vaccinations / check up, it’s absolutely worth it in my opinion for emergency situations that can run so high so quickly. But again just for a new puppy or younger dog! Hoping her surgery goes well :)
