On Dating, Job Searches, and Being the Almost
For most of my adult life, I’ve had a theory: I’m the girl men date right before they meet their wives.
On my best days, I felt like I was the one training them to be the partner someone would want to marry. On my worst days, it felt like I was the one helping them figure out what they wanted, and unfortunately, it wasn’t me.
If we’re subscribing to the “Taxi Cab Theory” from Sex and the City1, it felt like I was the one doing the work with the guy to flip his light on — so when the next girl came along, he was suddenly ready.
In today’s modern “situationship” world, I’ve had more than a few relationships where the ending wasn’t exactly linear. And on more than one occasion, I’ve later realized he met “her” right around the time things started to unravel with us.
