How to save money on grocery delivery, getting flying miles for Uber rides, a plea for help with weeknight dinners, how much you need to earn to live comfortably needing childcare, and creatine. π§
I felt really strongly that women should take creatine, did tons of research. I def saw cognitive and physical benefits such as muscle definition (scale does go up 1-3 lbs tho). After about 6 weeks my hair started falling out in clumps. Like massive shed. everything I researched said hair loss was NOT a side effect and just a myth but I found a bunch of other women on Reddit who had it happen too. The second I stopped taking it the hair loss stopped. So I guess im a rare case but sharing just in case anyone ever has this happen to them and thinks theyβre alone.
Whoa, wow!!! That is beyond good to know. Do you think it could be the kind or dose you were taking, or was the Reddit thread for all different brands/types?
I was taking momentous (great brand) and 3-5 mg (low dose). After I found myself googling hair shed + creatine and it has something to do with a hormone called DHT which can be linked to hair loss in some people . I donβt think itβs that common but it reminded me of being postpartum
Wowza. Iβve heard of DHT, but need to do some research. I wonder if thereβs something to take concurrently to offset? Iβm all for the cognitive and physical benefits, but hair loss is definitely not worth it. Sorry you experienced this, but thanks so much for sharing!!
Probably minoxidil. I think youβre good just starting the creatine 3-5 mg dose and see how it goes! You can always stop if something comes up (and my hair did grow back- lots of baby hairs) but it may be a nonissue. Stacy Sims has done tons of good talks about why women should be on it.
I started adding creatine to my smoothies about six months ago. (I'm, also, on HRT, because perimenopause is a blast.) I've noticed I have more energy and recover quicker from my workouts than my girlfriends who don't use it. Honestly, I'm throwing everything at this stage of life that I can to keep my sanity! I really like Thorne's creatine powder because there's no added sugar and it's flavorless.
I'll try any and every type of therapy or supplement to try to feel my best! But thank you for the Thorne rec!! I know I've seen that brand around and probably have it in my phone screenshots somewhere. <$0.50 per scoop seems great, too! https://go.shopmy.us/p-40224951
We used Plated for years and are now using Marley Spoon, it is the closest I have found to Plated. Give it a try, it really helps with cooking fatigue and decision fatigue
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions! Also big supporter of the Jewel Osco app as well, I usually just pick up and havent done delivery yet but it is so easy for pickup and they have good prices!
As someone with 2 kids in childcare (last year it was 3), I wish the takeaway was: βwe need government support in lessening the outsized financial impact of childcareβ and not βhereβs how much more parents need to earn.β
(FWIW we are high earners who still make less than that and afford private daycare in the Chicago suburbs. Itβs too much!!).
CO-SIGN!! Obviously I don't have kids and can't personally relate, but hear my (high-earning) friends talk about this constantly. We absolutely need government support to offset the financial impact of childcare! When my husband and I try to wrap our minds around having kids, the cost itself is undoubtedly our biggest concern. (And maybe the sleeping in on the weekends part π) But seeing these numbers felt like a gut punch.
Yeah, itβs insane. We spent $54k in childcare last year for 3 kids (our peak year before my oldest started kindergarten). And thatβs at a pretty βcheapβ daycare by north shore standards.
Almost like the system is designed to force the lower earner parent to stay home. Donβt get me started! But, you figure it out because you have to. (Infuriating as it may be).
π«£ Wow! You're absolutely right with the second part β one of my girlfriends was a teacher before she had children, but ended up leaving because every way you ran the numbers, keeping her job would have actually cost them money.

Will do! Just ordered the Chicken Piccata Meatballs and Indian-Inspired Butter Chickpeas for delivery next Monday. So excited to try!!
I love that you use the Jewel app, too! I don't think I've heard anyone talk about it and had to share.
Chicken Piccata is one of my faves!
Last week I thanked you for returning to emailing out your posts. I said that I missed you. This week Iβm unsubscribing.
You lost me at Minnesota and Michelle Obama. I wish you luck in life.
Life comes at you fast sometimes! Best of luck out there.
